The International research said that the degree is not the important thing for new generation labor. The world market trend shows that choosing skills more than degrees are facing with problems. The new generation of labors have skills which are not different from the labors who are almost retire. The government sector and the private sector have to hasten to promote workmanship skill of SMEs in the reason of hoping Thailand will get free from the trap of medium income country.
In recently, at Centra by Centara Government Complex Hotel & Convention Centre Chaeng Watthana, Quality Learning Foundation cooperated with Dhurakij Pundit University organize an international stage “Power of Thais improvement: the way out of the trap of medium income country” to find a mutual way between the government part, the private part and the communication. In workmanship skill improvement of new generation labor to conform to economic part by Quality Learning Foundation as an institute which is committed from government following quality learning improvement plan. These are for disparity reduction and economic base improvement supporting in 4 economic countries, those are Tak, Trat, Nongkrai and Sakaew.
M.L. Pundarik Samiti, the permanent secretary office, the chairman open the ceremony with the latest number of National Statistical Office which shows that there are 39 million of working age population aged 15-59 in Thailand but there are only 11 million who are labors in the system.
Dr. Supakorn Buasai, Managing Director of Quality Learning Foundation, said that the tendency of new generation labor who work with SMEs is increased in 2-3 years ago. Therefore, we have to find the way to make schools produce personals who are expected by labor market needs. And also, schools should help students develop their labor skills and lifelong learning by the reason of “labors is the important principal in Thai economic driving. These are the reason that we have the meeting together today. The summary of the meeting will be developed to be the important working trend and be on the base of the international knowledge. If Thailand can synthesize the working strategy of SMEs market, it will be the way to extend results of working between employer and labor needs conforming to the government policy.
Mr. Andreas Schleicher, Director for Education and Skills, and Special Advisor on Education Policy to the Secretary-General at the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris, said that the survey on Adults Skills age 16-59 years old in 24 member countries found that the trend of world labor market place importance on labors who have creative skill, critical skill, problem solving skill, communication skill and coordinated skill including to characteristic or personality.
Miss Akiko Sakamoto, Specialist, Skills and Employability, International Labor Organization, presented 4,076 entrepreneurs and 2,747 students in Vocational College and other Universities in ASEAN research. In labor market of ASEAN, we found that labors who just came into labor market have skills those are not different from labors who nearly retire. Female labors and low educated labors will be affected if they are not develop their skills in working age which technology progress.
Dr. Mike Y.K Guu, President of National Pingtung University, Taiwan, said that most of labors and populations in Thailand are in the agricultural sector which have an ability in production and administration by using Knowledge-based Agriculture and have innovation and technology skills same as Taiwan.
Dr. Kiatanan Luankaew, Assistant of vice Rector for Research, Dhurakij Pundit University, said that the research which Dhurakij Pundit University and Quality Learning Foundation have worked together about labor markets and SME employer studying in 3 countries (Chiangmai, Trat and Phuket) found that Thai employer give an attention to qualification of employees sort out by career skill, team working skill, honestly and qualification.
Dr. Saovanee Chantapong, Domestic Economy Department, Monetary Policy Group, the Central Bank of Thailand, said that Thailand is facing with declining productivity and labor force. In the labor market structure research, growth of labor productivity overview in 3 economy sectors (service, production and agriculture) in Thailand is decreased during 40 years. The growth of labor productivity in the present, service sector is lower than agricultural sector and production sector is the highest.
